Welcoming New Patients

At Bridgetown Medical Group, we have been caring for the Bridgetown community and surrounding districts for more than 45 years. As an AGPAL-accredited practice, we are proud to provide high-quality, patient-centred healthcare in a friendly and welcoming environment.

We understand that choosing a GP is an important decision. Whether you’re new to the area, looking for a family doctor, or seeking ongoing support for your health, our team is here to listen, care, and work alongside you at every stage of life.

Our experienced GPs provide comprehensive medical care, from antenatal care and children’s health through to chronic disease management, mental health, aged care and palliative care. Several of our doctors also support the local hospital, providing medical care to the community as part of a 24-hour on-call roster.

Our dedicated practice nurses are an integral part of our team, offering preventative healthcare, chronic disease support, immunisations, health assessments, and diagnostic services including spirometry and ECGs.

Located in one of Bridgetown’s historic buildings, our fully computerised, mixed billing practice combines modern healthcare with the personalised service of a country medical practice. We value building lasting relationships with our patients and their families and are committed to providing care that is respectful, compassionate and tailored to individual needs.

We are also proud to be a teaching practice, helping to train the next generation of rural doctors. By supporting GP registrars and rural generalist trainees, we contribute to the future of healthcare in our community while bringing fresh knowledge and enthusiasm to our practice.

We look forward to welcoming you to Bridgetown Medical Group and being your trusted partner in health.

How do I book a new patient appointment?

You must book your new patient appointment by phoning the practice on (08) 9761 1222. You are unable to book new patient apppintments via HotDoc.

Completing Our New Patient Form

When you book your first appointment with our reception team, we will create a basic patient file for you.

If you have chosen to receive SMS reminders, you will also receive a secure link via HotDoc to complete your new patient registration online before your appointment. This helps us prepare for your visit and reduces paperwork on the day. When you arrive at the practice, we will ask you to review the information you have provided and confirm that it is correct.

If you are unable to complete the online registration form before your appointment, or prefer not to use it, please arrive 10–15 minutes early to complete a paper registration form at the practice.

If you have any questions about registering as a new patient, our reception team will be happy to assist you.

Transferring Your Medical Records

If you would like your medical records transferred from your previous GP or medical practice, you will need to complete our Medical Records Transfer Request form. Once completed, we will forward the request to your previous practice on your behalf.

Please note that some practices charge a fee to prepare and transfer medical records. As these fees are set by your previous practice, we recommend contacting them directly if you would like information about any costs that may apply.

If you have any questions about transferring your records, our reception team will be happy to assist you.

Late Arrival & Cancellation Policy

Late Arrivals

We understand that delays can happen. If you are running late, please phone the practice as soon as possible to let us know.

We will do our best to accommodate late arrivals; however, this cannot be guaranteed and will depend on your doctor’s schedule. In some cases, you may be asked to reschedule your appointment if there is insufficient time to provide safe and appropriate care.

Appointment Cancellations

If you are unable to attend your appointment, please provide at least 2 hours’ notice so that we can offer the appointment to another patient.

Patients who do not attend their appointment or cancel with less than 2 hours’ notice will receive a warning SMS following the first occurrence. Subsequent missed appointments or late cancellations will incur a $100 non-attendance fee.

Outstanding non-attendance fees must be paid before further appointments can be booked.

What do I need to bring to my first appointment?

To help us provide you with the best possible care, please bring the following to your first appointment:

  • Your Medicare card.
  • Any private health insurance, Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) or concession cards, if applicable.
  • A list of your current medications, including prescription medicines, over-the-counter medications, vitamins and supplements. Bringing the medications in their original packaging can also be helpful.
  • Any recent test results, specialist letters or hospital discharge summaries that may be relevant to your care.

If you are transferring from another medical practice, we recommend arranging for your medical records to be sent to us before your appointment. Our reception team can assist you with the transfer process.

Please arrive 10–15 minutes before your scheduled appointment to complete any necessary registration forms and ensure we have your current contact and Medicare details.

If you have any questions before your visit, our friendly reception team will be happy to help.

Billing and Payment

Bridgetown Medical Group is a mixed billing practice. All consultations incur a fee, with a Medicare rebate available for patients who hold a valid Medicare card. Our current consultation fees can be viewed here.

Consultation fees vary depending on the length and complexity of your appointment.

Patients under 16 years of age and Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) Gold Card holders are bulk billed.

Payment is required at the completion of your appointment. We accept cash and EFTPOS payments.

If you are eligible for a Medicare rebate, we can process your claim at the time of payment. Your rebate can either be paid directly back onto your debit card (where available) or lodged electronically with Medicare for deposit into your nominated bank account.

If you have any questions about our fees or billing arrangements, please contact our reception team prior to your appointment.

Longer Appointments for Complex Issues

Standard GP appointments are booked in 15-minute time slots.

If you think you may need additional time with your doctor—for example, to discuss multiple or complex health concerns, mental health, care planning, or procedures—please let our reception team know when booking your appointment. This allows us to schedule sufficient time for your consultation.

Booking the appropriate appointment length helps ensure your doctor has enough time to address your concerns thoroughly while also helping us keep appointments running as close to schedule as possible for all patients.
